David Ballard of Guilford County, North Carolina (1750-????).

David Ballard, son of William Ballard of Caroline and Bedford Counties, Virginia, was born 9, 4 [June] 1750.

On 12, 9 [September] 1772, at Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting. Moorman Ballard, Judith Douglass, David Ballard & Elizabeth Bunch, Camp Creek Meeting, dismissed for married contrary to discipline by a priest; in 10th month [October] parents of the women clear themselves of consent.1 (it is not clear who married whom). On 9, 3 [March] 1776 at Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting, David Ballard requests reinstate.2 Hinshaw, Vol. VI, p. 228. On 8, 6 [June] 1776 at Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting. David Ballard is granted certificate to “his friends.”3

David apparently relocated to North Carolina, for on 26, 10 [October] 1776, he is received by New Garden Monthly Meeting on certificate from Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting, dated 8, 6 [June] 1777.4

On 25, 3 [March] 1780 at New Garden Monthly Meeting, Thomas Beals, William Hiatt, Christopher Hiatt & David Ballard were granted certificate to travel to the Ohio River to be near & labor with the Deleware Indians.5 This certificate was returned 30, 9 [September] 1780.6

On 27, 8 [August] 1808 at Mt. Pleasant Monthly Meeting. David Ballard and his wife, Mary and daughters granted certificate to the Center Monthly Meeting in Ohio.7

Issue:

Joseph, b. 20, 12 [December] 1770. On 10, 9 [September] 1790, at Westfield Monthly Meeting. Joseph Ballard is reported married to Elizabeth Burcham.8 On 25, 9 [September] 1813 at Mt. Pleasant Monthly Meeting. Joseph & wife Elizabeth & their daughters are granted certificate to Senter Monthly Meeting in Ohio.9

JOHN, b. 10, 8 [August] 1772.

Rhoda, b. 1, 3 [March] 1775. On 5, 1 [January] 1797 at Westfield Monthly Meeting, Rhoda Ballard, daughter of David & Mary, Grayson County. Virginia, married Reuben Green.10

Lydia, b. 4, 9 [September] 1776. On 27, 9 [September] 1798, Lydia Ballard, daughter of David & Mary of Grayson County, Virginia, married John Johnson.11

NATHAN, b. 22, 4 [April] 1778. On 22, 11 [November] 1799, Nathan Ballard of Grayson County, Virginia, son of David & Mary, married Martha Bond.12

Edith, b. c. 1783. On 2, 2 [February] 1804 at Mount Pleasant Monthly Meeting, Edith, daughter of David Ballard married Josiah Jessop13.

On 26, 4 [April] 1798, at Westfield Monthly Meeting, John Ballard in Grayson County, Virginia, the son of David & Mary, married Dinah Pickrell, the daughter of John and Catharine Pickrell.14 On 30, 9 [September] 1809 at Mt. Pleasant Monthly Meeting, John & wife, Dinah and their children are granted certificate to the Miami Monthly Meeting in Ohio.15

Lydia, b. 4, 4 [April] 1799, d. 13, 2 [February] 1800.

Lydia, b. 9, 11 [November] 1800.16

30, 9 [September] 1809, at Mt. Pleasant Monthly Meeting, Nathan Ballard, his wife Martha & their children are granted certificate to Center Monthly Meeting in Ohio. Hinshaw, Vol. I, p. 1007. An enumeration of their children appears in the minutes of the Westfield Monthly Meeting.18
